Why Choose Ulster University?
University of the Year 2024
THE named Ulster the UK and Ireland's University of the Year in 2024 for its role in fostering peace and prosperity. In the same period it jumped from 49th to 32nd in the Complete University Guide and from 28th to 24th in the Guardian University Guide. Those are not small moves — most universities shift one or two places a year.
Four subjects in the UK top 2
Ulster ranks #1 in the UK for Nutrition and Food Sciences in the Guardian University Guide. It also sits at #2 nationally for Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacy and Hospitality, Events and Tourism. Getting four subjects into the top 2 across completely different faculties is not common. It tells students the strength is broad, not concentrated in one department.
94% employment
94% of Ulster graduates are in work or further study within 6 months. By subject: Pharmacy is 100%. Engineering is 97%. Accounting is 95%. These are not aggregate numbers blended across 30,000 students to hide weak spots — they are subject-level results with a consistent pattern across different faculties.
Every international student gets an automatic scholarship
Ulster gives every new international undergraduate and postgraduate an automatic £2,000 fee reduction. No form, no competition, no essay. For Law, Creative Industries and TESOL postgraduate students, this stacks with a further £2,200 faculty scholarship — a total of £4,200 off tuition in the first year, still with no application required.
Belfast is the most affordable way to study in the UK
University accommodation in Belfast starts at £144 a week. The UK government's own financial requirement for visa purposes is £1,171 a month outside London versus £1,529 in London. Over a 3-year degree, studying in Belfast rather than London saves around £13,000 in the money students are required to hold — and day-to-day living is cheaper still.
