Why Choose Cape Breton University?
Major Medical Campus Investment
CBU is building a $58.9 million Cape Breton Medical Campus opening in fall 2025. This includes a $49 million medical sciences centre, a $6.2 million collaborative clinic serving 10,000 patients, and a $3.7 million expansion of the Nancy Dingwall Health and Counselling Centre. For students in nursing, public health, and healthcare management, this means access to brand-new clinical training facilities.
Fast-Track to Professional HR Certification
The Bachelor of Business Administration holds an exclusive accreditation agreement with the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources of Canada. Final-year BBA students can obtain a waiver for the National Knowledge Exam, creating a direct path to professional HR certification without the standard examination process.
Strong Graduate Employment in Education and Health
Graduates from the School of Education and Health report employment rates between 94% and 97%. Up to 86% of these graduates secure full-time, permanent positions. Median full-time earnings for Education graduates sit at $60,700 CAD, while the broader graduate average is $55,800 CAD annually.
Direct Pathway to Nova Scotia Permanent Residency
CBU's programme portfolio maps directly onto the Nova Scotia Nominee Program International Graduates in Demand stream. Graduates in paramedicine, pharmacy technology, nursing, and early childhood education who secure a full-time job offer in Nova Scotia are prioritized for provincial nomination, bypassing standard federal Express Entry delays.
Lower Cost of Living in Atlantic Canada
Sydney, Nova Scotia offers housing costs 35% to 45% lower than Toronto or Vancouver. A one-bedroom apartment averages $1,550 CAD per month. The CBU Students' Union negotiates a subsidized transit pass at just $60 CAD per month. Combined with international undergraduate tuition of $22,708.10 per year, the total cost of study is meaningfully lower than at institutions in Canada's major metropolitan areas.
